AAmp was commissioned to transform a detached garage into a guest house in Los Angeles. The small footprint of the garage proved a productive constraint that led to a flexible, yet compact layout that accommodates a bathroom & living/sleeping space for guests. The design concept was to treat the guest house as a garden folly sited within a vibrant, reimagined landscape. The material palette mixes minimalist light & dark tones and forms, with pops of exuberant color. The interior flows out to a lush garden space with a shade structure that mimics the form of the guest house and provides a covered space for outdoor dining and entertaining.
